Sports Ministry
We are using an important element of Zambian culture to reach the community surrounding our campus for Christ.
The Teams
Living Hope is proud to have several teams that participate in local tournaments. We have a senior men's team, an under-17 boys team, an under-13 boys team, a girls soccer team, and a men’s volleyball team.
Members of the teams are required to attend weekly Bible studies where our staff leads them in conversations about leadership, their relationship with Christ, the importance of being involved in church, and what it means to live with Christ-like character both on and off the field.
Our teams go by the name Living Hope Warriors, based on Ephesians 6.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
Ephesians 6: 10-11
The Community
Sports bring people to our campus like almost nothing else. Whenever we host a game, nearly everyone within walking distance travels to see the competition.
This gives our team countless opportunities to invest in our community and share the love of Christ and the truth of the Gospel with all who gather!
The Impact
Over the past year, we've had the privilege of working alongside our local council and government leaders. Together, we helped establish the Masaiti Amateur Football Association (MAFA) under the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ). It's exciting to see organized football growing in our district, and Living Hope has been blessed to play a role in that process.
Out of the sixteen teams in the league, our men's team is currently in fourth place, and our girls' team is sitting in second. We've also received invitations to compete in several exclusive tournaments, and scouts from as far away as Norway have come to watch our players. Most exciting of all, one of our young men has been selected to join a semi-professional club in Lusaka, an opportunity that is extremely rare for a child raised in a rural village like Masaiti.
The Future
This fall, our hope is to begin constructing a running track around our soccer pitch and launch a cross-country and track program. Looking ahead to next spring, we plan to renovate one of our existing buildings into a multipurpose sports facility that will include a gymnasium and a physical education classroom for our growing school.
As exciting as these facilities will be, they are simply tools. Our greatest goal has never been to build winning teams—it is to build disciples. Every practice, every match, every Bible study, and every conversation is another opportunity to point young people toward Christ and help them become leaders who will influence their families and communities for His Kingdom.
